China obtém promissores progressos no desenvolvimento de uma vacina contra o v-PSA

Segundo a notícia Researchers identify a "promising" ASF vaccine breakthrough1 (por The Pig Site) do The Pig Site de 6 de março de 2020, os resultados do desenvolvimento de uma vacina eficaz contra a peste suína africana (PSA) foram detalhados em um artigo científico2 recentemente publicado pelo Harbin Veterinary Research Institute (HVRI), subordinado à Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), na cidade de Harbin, nordeste da China.

 

 

O HVRI é o principal instituto estatal chinês de pesquisa de doenças animais e desenvolveu uma vacina contra o vírus da peste suína africana (v-PSA) que se mostrou segura e eficaz em testes de laboratório. O HVRI criou uma vacina viva, chamada HLJ/-18-7GD, a partir de uma série de vírus "deletados por genes", com base na primeira cepa de PSA do país.

 

 

 

"A avaliação da virulência, imunogenicidade, segurança e eficácia protetora em suínos livres de patógenos específicos, suínos comerciais e fêmeas prenhes indicou que um vírus, chamado HLJ/-18-7GD, com sete genes excluídos, é totalmente atenuado em suínos, não pode se converter à cepa virulenta e fornece proteção completa dos suínos contra o desafio letal do v-PSA", disseram os pesquisadores chineses.

"Nosso estudo mostra que o HLJ/-18-7GD é uma vacina segura e eficaz contra o v-PSA e, como tal, deverá desempenhar um papel importante no controle da disseminação da PSA".

Embora seja uma notícia bem-vinda, não há indicação de que a vacina esteja perto de obter aprovação para fins comerciais. A produção da vacina contra o v-PSA é atualmente supervisionada pela CAAS que não forneceu cronogramas estimados sobre quando poderia ser colocado em produção para fins comerciais.

 

"Otimismo moderado" com relação à vacina chinesa contra o v-PSA

Segundo a notícia Moderate optimism about Chinese ASF vaccine (por Vincent ter Beek) do Pig Progress de 5 de março de 2020, é preciso um "otimismo moderado" com relação à vacina HLJ/-18-7GD  contra o v-PSA, "pois não está claro se ela pode se recombinar para se tornar novamente virulenta". 

Uma pesquisa realizada nos EUA observou que alguns animais vacinados ainda abrigavam o "vírus de desafio", o que significa a possibilidade de "uma recombinação no longo prazo".

 

Instituto Pirbright desenvolve uma vacina promissora contra a PSA

Conforme a notícia New ASF vaccine from Pirbright Institute shows promise (por The Pig Site) do The Pig Site de 21 de maio de 2020, os cientistas do Instituto Pirbright do Reino Unido estão um passo mais perto do desenvolvimento de uma vacina vital contra a peste suína africana (PSA), uma doença que a Organização Mundial de Saúde Animal (OIE) alertou que poderia matar um quarto dos suínos do mundo, em parte devido à ausência de vacina comercialmente disponível. O estudo, publicado na Vaccines, mostrou que 100% dos suínos imunizados com a nova vacina ficaram protegidos de uma dose letal do vírus da PSA.

Os cientistas criaram o que é conhecido como vacina vetorizada, inserindo oito genes do v-PSA estrategicamente selecionados em um vírus não nocivo, conhecido como vetor. Os vetores são usados ​​para entregar os genes às células do animal, onde eles produzem proteínas virais que estimulam seu sistema imunológico a responder rapidamente a uma infecção pela PSA. A combinação de oito genes de vírus protegeu os suínos dessa grave doença, após a administração de uma cepa fatal do v-PSA, embora seus sinais clínicos tenham se desenvolvido.

 

 

É a primeira vez que uma vacina vetorizada mostra um efeito protetor contra a PSA. No entanto, é necessário um maior desenvolvimento dessa vacina, mas, se for bem-sucedida, ela permitirá a diferenciação de animais infectados daqueles que foram vacinados, fato que permitiria estabelecer programas de vacinação sem sacrificar a capacidade de comercialização dos animais.
